[Class 38 (v)] In a circuit-breaker comprising a nozzle L wholly or partly of conducting material and insulated from the cylindrical metal casing M, an upward blast of de-ionizing gas actuates a horizontally moving contact (not shown), and then transfers the arc to the arcing contacts D, E The contact E is conductively connected to the casing M, the moving contact and an auxiliary contact P. Possibility of the arc restriking is minimised by providing in series between the contacts D, E, two arc-gaps G', G<2>, which are arranged to be equally stressed by making the ratio of their capacitances inversely proportional to the ratio of their dielectric strengths.
