Abstract

653,781. Trimming boats. DENGHY, J. A. L. Sept. 29, 1948, No. 25384. [Class 113 (i)] In a sailing vessel, a counterpoise is capable of removable attachment to the gunwhale of the vessel and is adjustably movable thereon transversely of the vessel to the extent required to counteract the tendency of the vessel to heel to leeward when close hauled or with the wind on the beam. Counterbalance masses 17 are positioned by cleats 18 on a counterpoise arm 16 pivoted in lugs 15 in the vessel or carried by a plate 10. The plate 10 may have an upper portion 101 by which it is hooked over the gunwhale, or it may be mounted on the gunwhale by engaging pegs thereon. When not in use the counterpoise arm 16 may be swung inboard against the side of the vessel.
