Abstract

1348698 Sailing hydrofoil craft G H HOLTOM 16 May 1972 [17 May 1971] 15228/71 Headings B7A B7M and B7V The hull 1 of a sailing craft has outriggers 3 extending athwartships on each side of the hull and a hydrofoil 2 is mounted on the outboard end of each outrigger so that when the lower tip of one hydrofoil is below the designed water level of the craft the other hydrofoil is above that water level. In the embodiment shown the hydrofoils 2 are of triangular shape, apex downward, a bow hydrofoil 15 is retractable and the hull is of plastics material. The outriggers shown are slidably mounted so that the beam of the craft is reduced when not sailing. The greater the immersion of the triangular hydrofoils 2 the greater the stabilizing effect.
