Abstract
1304511 Sailing craft W L WILLIAMS 2 April 1970 [2 Jan 1969] 377/69 Headings B7A B7S and B7V A sailing craft hull comprises a base 1 and at least two float members 4, 5 hinged at 6 on opposite sides of the base symmetrically with respect to hull centreline 2 but not being symmetrical in themselves. The float members are free to pivot between two set positions determined by the motion of the craft and its leeway and each float has its centre of pressure, aft of or below the associated hinge axis so that with the wind from one side of the centreline the leeward float pivots to one set position to present a planing or hydrofoil surface to the water as the craft is seailed in a direction offset to leeward with respect to the centreline. The weather float then pivots to the other set position where it provides a leeboard surface aligned with the direction of sailing. Each float member is able to serve as a rudder and as shown in Fig. 4 each may have a hinged hydrofoil 13 and keel 12.
