Abstract

737,888. Sailing-craft. FAWCETT, H.W. Sept. 16, 1953 [Oct. 7, 1952], No. 25149/52. Class 113 (2). In a sailing craft comprising an elongated member 2 disposed transversely to the direction of movement of the craft and having a sail carrying mast 3 mounted thereon, at least one buoyant keel 6 is pivotally secured at either side of the centre of said member and is adapted to move to a limited extent on either side of a vertical plane perpendicular to the member 2. The craft may have a single hull, or as shown in Fig. 1, the elongated member may be supported by two hulls 1. The angular position of the keel may be manually controlled, or as shown in Fig. 3, the keel 20 may be provided with stops 21 to limit the movement. In the embodiment of Fig. 3, two keels 20 and 22 are provided, the longer keel 22 having a more limited angular movement than the other. In Fig. 4, the keel 30 is provided at its underside with a non-buoyant flap keel 34. The keel 40 of Fig. 6, is of such a configuration that the angle with respect to said vertical plane of the upper part at 43 is greater than the corresponding angle at 44 of the lower part.
