Abstract
1,071,680. Rudders; sterns. CENTRALNE BIURO KONSTRUKCJI OKRETOWYCH NR. I. Dec. 19, 1963 [Dec. 20, 1962], Headings B7A and B7V. A ship's steering arrangement comprises a rudder blade (1) and at least one additional surface defined by a plate-like member (2 or 3) which is spaced from the ship's hull (5, e.g. by a vertical plate 4), the additional surface being disposed closely adjacent the lower or upper end of the rudder blade, or secured to the lower or upper end of the rudder blade for movement with the blade, the additional surface having a maximum chord at least equal to the chord of the rudder blade at said end, the span of the additional surface extending on both sides of and substantially at right-angles to the plane of symmetry of the blade. The additional surface may be secured to the hull and so remains stationary when the rudder is moved. The surface may be horizontal or inclined.
