743,893. Planing vessels, manoeuvring. GANNHOLM, K. J. E. Nov. 9, 1953 [Nov, 10, 1952; May 16, 1953], No. 31008/53. Classes 113 and 114. In a hull for high-speed craft having its beam greater than its height and narrowing from above and below towards the stem and the stern, its underside 23 curves inwardly and upwardly such that beneath each side of the hull and along substantially the whole length thereof a longitudinal ski 5, 24, 25 is formed, under which ski a narrow longitudinal fin 4, 26 runs whereby a duct is formed between the skis, the underside of the hull and the water surface so that when the craft is moving forwards air is forced into the duct to exert an upward force on the craft. Screw propellers 10, 18 may be provided having their shafts 8, 16 in the fins, and a steering screw 2 may be arranged in the fore part of the fins with its direction of propulsion perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the craft. More than two skis may be used, the embodiment of Fig. 4 having three, viz 28, 29, 30.
