Abstract

1329744 Hydrofoil craft S ULVESAND and U BONTHELIUS 8 Dec 1970 [9 Dec 1969] 58315/70 Heading B7A A water craft has surface piercing bow and stern hydrofoils rigidly attached to the hull and each in the form of a loop having side portions which extend downwardly and inwardly from the hull so that the centres of the closed ends of the loops are spaced from, and lie in the vertical plane containing the longitudinal axis of, the hull. The side portions of the bow and stern foils project fore and aft respectively so that, in plan view, the open ends of the loops are facing. The bow foil 2 (Figs. 1 and 2) may be of broken V-shape and the aft foil 3 may be of straight-sided, truncated V-shape, stabilizing fins 12 being provided at their apices. The foils may have anti-ventilation ribs on their upper surfaces and splash guards on their lower surfaces.
