[Class 131] In a dry shaver the rotating or reciprocating cutting edges are spaced from the inside surface of an apertured guard and the skin and hair are sucked into the apertures by the vacuum effect of a fan or by an external source of vacuum. As shown the guard G has large apertures A through which the skin SK protrudes to be in contact with the cutting edges E of the cutter blades B which also function as a fan generating a vacuum inside the guard. In a modification the fan blades are separate from the cutter blades but are mounted on the same drive shaft S. The device may be used for massaging the skin by removal of the cutter blades or by substituting a guard in which the clearance between the guard and cutting edges is increased. The intensity of the massage effect is varied by varying the speed of the fan or by substituting a guard having apertures of a different size.
