[Class 131] In a hand-operated dry shaver comprising at least one blade resting resiliently on the outer surface of a cylindrical, hollow, apertured rotary member the blade and rotary member are mounted in a handle shaped to be grasped by the fingers and provided with a hollow for the thumb by which the rotary member is oscillated at a peripheral speed corresponding to the rate of movement of the thumb. As shown the rotary member 2, perforated at 10 is mounted on the spindle 7 secured at its ends to the limbs of a U-shaped clamping member 5 between which and the face 4 of the handle 3 the blade 1 is secured. Sheared hairs are shaken out through the apertures 9 in the end plates 8 which in a'modification may have milled edges. In further modifications the rotary member is given oscillatory movement by an operating member pivoted on the handle and engaging a recess in the cylindrical surface and a return spring, two blades may be provided and the cutting edge of the blade may be parallel or oblique to the axis of rotation of the rotary member.
