608,152. Dry-shavers. PAGE, H. E. Feb. 15, 1946, No. 4836. Convention date, Feb. 16, 1945. [Class 131] A dry shaver with a freely rotatable, perforated, cylindrical guard within which a cutter is reciprocated is characterized in that the guard is supported at both ends in a recess formed in the head of a holder forming the handle of the shaver for rotation about an axis extending lengthwise of the holder and that an elongated cutter blade of segmental cross-section is reciprocated against the inner surface of the guard by a supporting member operatively connected to a power-operated driving means within the holder. As shown the guard 40, perforated at 41, is mounted for free rotation on annular shoulders 35 of the body portion 6 and the cap portion 26. The cutter blade 50, with serrated cutting edges and perforations, is mounted by U-shaped supports 57 on a rod 55 reciprocated in the openings 26a and 56 by the vibrating armature 17 of an electric motor M. The cavity 8 in the handle 5 which houses the motor is lined with sound absorbing material 9 and a swingable flap 30 closes an opening 29 through which severed hairs may be emptied. In a modification the cutter. is reciprocated by a pivoted lever one end of which engages a cam slot in a drum rotated by the motor.
