650,780. Broaching. SKINNER, V. A., and WEATHERLEY OILGEAR, Ltd. July 9, 1947, No. 18205. [Class 83 (iii)] In a broaching machine, a sliding table 6 transfers work-pieces 14 to and from a cradle 13 integral with or rigidly attached to the machine frame and the work-pieces are rigidly held in the cradle by hydraulically-operated clamps 15, 16. The table is reciprocated by link gear connected to a hydraulic ram pivoted on the frame and its upper surface may be shaped to receive the work-piece or may carry an adjustable jig 12. In the cradle, the workpieces are preferably held against a solid abutment so that the broaching force is transferred into the frame through a bracket 17. The operation of the clamps and sliding table may be automatically controlled by an electrohydraulic system interlinked with the movement of the tool-holder. Specification 637,931 is referred to.
