Abstract
1,265,960. Vices. W. E. & F. DOBSON Ltd. 8 Dec., 1969 [24 Oct., 1968], No. 50459/68. Heading B3B. A machine vice comprises a body 10, a relatively stationary jaw 12 and at least two independently movable jaws 14 each jaw 14 being movable by a separate feed screw 16 and handle 18. On the fixed stationary jaw 12 is mounted a fixed abutment 23 and an adjustable abutment 24 to pre-set a workpiece transversely of the jaws. The jaws 14 are each mounted on a carrier block 20 threadably connected to the feed screw 16. The body 10 includes tenons or dowels on its lower surface for engaging in a machine table. In alternative arrangements the jaws 14 may be movable by a cam or by pneumatic, hydraulic, electric or electronic means; both of the abutments 23, 24 may be movable along the fixed jaw 12; the fixed jaw 12 may be movable to preset positions on the body; and the jaws 14 may be pivotally mounted on the blocks 20 to allow tapered workpieces to be gripped.
