Abstract
650,195. Induction pipes. JAMESON, J. L. Aug. 27, 1948, No. 22582. [Class 7 (ii)] In a four-stroke engine, having two banks of four radial cylinders arranged in x formation with the cylinders in longitudinal alignment, one induction chamber 12 supplies mixture to the cylinders 4, 6, 8, 10 in one plane, and another induction chamber 13 supplies the cylinders 5, 7, 9, 11 in the other plane. Space is made for the chambers 12, 13 by connecting the pistons of the cylinders 5, 6, 9, 10 to the outside of the crank pins of a two-throw crankshaft. The firing order is preferably 4, 11, 6, 9, 10, 5, 8, 7. Combustible mixture may be supplied by two separate carburetters, but alternatively fuel may be injected into air pipes connected to the chambers 12, 13 each air pipe having an adjustable throttle valve.
