Abstract
649,243. Boats adapted to run on land. LITTLE, G. A. Dec. 30, 1948, No. 33489. [Class 113 (ii)] In a dinghy or like craft wherein one or two wheels 7 is or are located substantially at the centre of gravity of the craft, attachment means 24 are provided at the bow or stern so as to enable the craft to be secured to a towing vehicle in the manner of a trailer. The wheel or wheels may be retracted into compartments 3, 4 in the hull of the craft, being actuated through a spring device or a torque tube device. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 the spring device includes two telescoping members 13, 14, between which a spring 15 is located, one end of the device being connected by a link 12, lever 11 and arms 8 to the axle of the wheel 7, the other end being connected by a link 19 to a handle 20 connected by links 23 to a spindle 21 mounted in a bearing 22. By moving the handle 20 from the full line to the broken line position the wheel 7 is raised from the towing position to the retracted position shown in broken line. Several embodiments and two forms of towing fittings are described.
