558,238. Couplings for road vehicles. GOODLIFFE, A. W., and LONDON PASSENGER TRANSPORT BOARD. Aug. 7, 1942, No. 11070. [Class 103 (v)] A towing bar has a tube or bar 1 provided at its rear end with a pair of jaws 7 pivoted in a bracket 6 and which can be closed to grip the front axle 8 of a vehicle to be towed, the necessary movement being produced by means of a hand-wheel 16 turning a threaded shaft to traverse a nut 12 connected by toggle links 11 to arms 9, 10 of the jaws. The front end of the towing bar has a resiliently mounted plunger engaging spring catches provided in a housing 27 pivotally mounted on the towing vehicle wheels 3 may be used to support the towing bar.
