Abstract
329,274. Hunt, J. B. Feb. 11, 1929. Boat and raft launching apparatus. -Cradles for launching ships' boats comprise a member adapted to engage the side and keel of the boat and plates which are provided with wheels or caterpillars and are connected to the first member by struts which diverge outwardly, the struts may be made adjustable. A member a adapted to take against the side of the boat is connected by diverging tubular struts b with front and rear under-plates c carrying rollers d on axles e. Hooks or other securing means are attached to the end of the member a. In a modification the member a<1> is connected with the under plate c<2> by a fixed strut l pivoted at l<1> and a slidable strut j<1> pivoted at j, the position of a<1> with respect to c<2> being adjustable by means of the screw and rack gear k<1> for the purpose of insuring an upright position of the boat during launching the member a' is provided with an integral hook a<3> and with an adjustable clamp m<2>. When the boat is launched the skid is released by means of a tripping line.
