798,956. Boats adapted to run on land. SIMPSON, L. Oct. 10, 1956 [Nov. 21, 1955], No. 33262/55. Class 113. In a boat having a pair of longitudinally extending wheel housings 11 disposed one at each side of the hull and a ground engaging wheel 12 capable of retraction into each housing, each wheel is carried by a pair of arms 14 attached through the medium of a resilient suspension unit 31 to a rod 15 which projects into and extends transversely of the boat while being so supported as to be capable of angular or rotary movement about its longitudinal axis, there being a common actuating lever (19 in Fig. 1), fixedly connected to the two rods or a separate lever (33 in Fig. 6) fixedly connected to each of such rods in such a manner that angular movement of the or each lever in one direction or the other about the axis of the rods or of its associated rod will result in projective or retractive movement of the wheels or of the appropriate wheel. Each housing has a pair of hinged flaps or the like adapted to close the bottom thereof when the wheels are in the retracted position.
