Abstract

914,158. Vehicle underframes; spring suspensions. YORK TRAILER CO. Ltd. Sept. 8, 1961 -[Sept.23, 1960], No. 32867/60. Class 108(2). In a trailer or semi-trailer having at least four wheels arranged in pairs across its width, each pair of wheels 12 is mounted on an axle 10 secured by a clamp 13 to a spring 14 supposing a frame 15 mounted on the trailer chassis to pivot about a horizontal fore and aft axis. Side plates 16 at either end of the frame 15 are connected by plates 18 carrying stub shafts 20 journalled in bearings 26 in brackets 28 bolted to the trailer chassis. Stops 30 on, the frame 15 engage stops 31 on the chassis to limit pivoting of the frame to 11¢ degrees on either side of the horizontal position of the axle 10. Domed slippers 22 carried by extensions of the stub axles 20 rest on the spring 14. A radius rod 24 extends between the axle 10 and the frame 15. The pivotal axis of the frame 15 may be level with, above or below the axle 10. The axle may be slung below the spring 14 and the wheels 12 may be of dual construction.
