831,684. Road-vehicle spring-suspensions. ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO. Ltd. June 11, 1956 [July 15, 1955], No. 20493/55. Class 108(2) In the suspension of a unitary chassis and body of a motor vehicle each rear wheel mounted A is pivotally connected at 6 to the ends of arms 2, 3, pivotally mounted on the body at 4, 5. A further support is afforded by an arm 19 which is rigid with an anti-roll torsion bar 22 common to the arms 19 of each side of the vehicle. A load-carrying member 7 in the form of a combined telescopic hydraulic shock absorber and spring suspension unit is pivotally connected between the body at 8 and the end of the arm 2. The front suspensions B each comprise arms 10, 11, and a telescopic suspension device and shock-absorber 16. In the normal position of the vehicle when standing at rest, the angle of inclination of the device 16 with the ground in a fore-and-aft direction is equal to the castor angle of the front wheels. The axis of the device 16 in the normal position of the vehicle is parallel with the axis of the king pin of the respective wheel. The two suspensions at the front of the vehicle may also be connected to an anti-roll bar.
