1466060 Vehicle suspensions BRITISH LEYLAND UK Ltd 17 May 1974 [5 April 1973] 16237/73 Heading B7D [Also in Division F2] A motor vehicle front suspension comprises for each front wheel 18 a stub axle carrier 14 which is connected by an upper ball-and-socket joint 21, 41 to the arm 39 of a lever type damper 37 and by a lower ball-and-socket joint 24, 25 to a transverse leaf spring having two spaced tapering leaves 27, 28. The spring leaves 27, 28 are fixed at their centres to a cross-member 11 which is secured to longitudinal chassis members 13, and the each damper 37 is mounted on a strut 38 on the cross-member 11. A resilient bump stop 42 is fixed to each end of the crossmember 11. A spacer 33 mounted between the ends of the leaves 27, 28 may be replaced by the rear end of a trailing link attached at its front end to the vehicle body.
