Abstract

1515362 Vehicle suspensions NORDE SUSPENSIONS Ltd 23 Feb 1976 [19 Feb 1975] 6915/75 Heading B7D In a road vehicle suspension, each end of an axle 2 is resiliently attached to a leaf spring 1 having one end 5 pivotally connected to a bracket 7 on the vehicle frame 8 and the other end 9 connected to the frame 8 through a spring 10 comprising a rubber block bonded to end plates 11. The leaf spring 1 may have a single tapering leaf or multiple leaves and is attached to the axle 2 by U-bolts 4 and a rubber bush. The spring 10 has its end plates 11 rigidly mounted on members 12, 13 secured to the spring 1 and the frame 8 respectively, and the inclination of the spring 10 may be varied for modifying the ride characteristics of the suspension by using alternative or adjustable mounting members 12, 13. The axle 2 is transversely located by a panhard rod. In a modification the spring 10 is turned through 90 degrees so that it is at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. Two axles may be arranged in tandem with either the springs 10 or the pivots at the other ends of the leaf springs of the two axles positioned adjacent one another and connected to a balance lever pivotally mounted on the vehicle frame.
