Abstract
647,687. Fuel-injection pumps. C. A. V., Ltd. Aug. 21, 1948, No. 22111. [Class 102(i)] In a fuel-injection pump for a multicylinder internal combustion engine, the plunger b is reciprocated by a multi-lobed cam p and rotated through gearing u, t and sleeve s. The pump inlet d is connected to a number of inlet ports e and the cylinder is provided with a corresponding number of outlet ports f, each fitted with a non-return valve g. The plunger b has a recess k provided with an inclined edge and connected to a recess m that connects consecutively with the outlets f so that delivery commences when the end of the plunger closes the inlets and the recess m is aligned with an outlet f and terminates when the inclined edge opens an inlet port. The quantity is varied by moving longitudinally, by lever v, the wheel u that has helical teeth and so varying the phase between the rotation of the shaft o and the plunger.
