Abstract

642,475. Refrigerator-cars. INDUSTRIAL PATENTS CORPORATION. Feb. 19, 1948, No. 4911. Convention date, June 21, 1943. [Class 29] [Also in Group XXXII], The car is surrounded by a fluid-tight jacket 9 covered by insulation 6 and divided into a number of flow channels through which is circulated a refrigerant supplied by a pipe 18 to cool the storage space, the refrigerant then being removed and the jacket 9 evacuated to insulate the storage space. The channels in the jacket 9 communicate at the top with a header 11 for the supply of refrigerant from a stationary refrigerator 17 which passes into a common collecting header 12 and is removed through an outlet 15. When the storage space has reached the desired temperature the refrigerant is run off, a valve 14 in the refrigerant inlet pipe 18 closed and the jacket evacuated by a pump 19 connected with the outlet pipe 15 by a pipe 20. The car is loaded by a chute 24 extended through a top opening 21 to minimise loss of cold air. During extremely cold weather a heating medium may be passed through the jacket 9.
