Convention date, Dec. 19, 1944 [Class 29] A cold storage space 41 is cooled by the low temperature evaporator 50 of a continuous cycle inert gas absorption system 45 through the intermediary of a closed evaporating-condensing heat transfer system 51, and the body of the heat insulation 40 is cooled by the high temperature evaporator 44 of the absorption system through the intermediary of a second heat transfer system 43 Metal partition plates 42 inserted within the insulation are connected with the system 43. To avoid an intensive inert gas circulation through the high temperature evaporator 44 a byepass conduit 62 conducts part of the gas direct to the gas heat exchanger 49 after it has passed through the low temperature evaporator 50. The part of the inert gas passing through the high temperature evaporator may be returned to a point in the gas heat exchanger where the temperature of the gas equals that in the byepass conduit as described in Specification 648,712. Compression systems.-The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a form in which low and high pressure compressors 15, 16, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), operate in series to supply a condenser 17 and receiver 19, and a high temperature expansion valve 29 feeds a liquid container 30 from which the low temperature evaporator 13 cooling the food space 10 is supplied through a pipe 23 and expansion valve 22. The insulation 12 is cooled by an evaporator 14 fed from the container 30 through a pipe 20. The vapour frcm the low and high temperature evaporators passes back to the compressors by pipes 35 and 21 respectively. The valves 29, 22 are controlled by thermostats 31, 33. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
