657,376. Refrigerating ELECTROLUX, Ltd. Feb. 17, 1949, No. 4341. Convention date, March 2, 1948. [Class 29] In a refrigerator 11 containing a low temperature section 12 cooled by evaporators 13, 14, the chamber 11 being cooled by an evaporating-condensing system 22, heat is supplied only to the low temperature evaporators 13, 14 during de-frosting. The invention is described with reference to a continuous cycle absorption refrigerating system incorporating the evaporators 13, 14 supplied in parallel with liquid refrigerant by pipes 15, 16 respectively and in parallel with inert gas by a pipe 30 leading from the gas-heat exchanger 31, the gas flow being in the same direction as the liquid refrigerant. Unevaporated refrigerant and cold gases flow from the evaporators through a pipe 18 which is in heat exchange with the condenser part of the system 22. This heat exchanger is insulated as shown at 19. During defrosting, hot absorption solution or hot refrigerant is supplied to evaporators 13, 14 and to the pipe 18 where it stops condensation in the system 22. As the circulation in system 22 is thus stopped and as the exchanger 19 is insulated, no appreciable heat is supplied to the main chamber 11. The system 22 may also contain a non-condensing gas and may be formed from flat plates constituting inner walls of the chamber.
