Abstract

641,800. Caps and holders for discharge tubes. EDISON SWAN ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. May 9, 1947, No. 12672. [Class 38 (i)] A holder for a miniature valve 1, e.g. of 1.5 cms. maximum diameter having asymmetrically arranged base contacts 3 surrounding a twice as thick central locating wire 2 of the order of 0.10 to 1.25 mm. diameter, Fig. 1, comprises an insulating body 5, 12, with similarly arranged holes 11, 17 for the valve contacts and having a central hole which receives the wire 2 and which may be lined by a tube 6, 14 which is riveted to the body. The tube is provided either with a spring clip 8, Fig. 4, or spring fingers 26, Fig. 7, which engage a groove 4 in the wire 2 and thereby lock the valve in the holder. Spring contacts 10, 19 are secured in the holes 11, 17 in the body, the mouths of the holes being chamfered to provide lead-ins 9, 23 for the wires 3. To facilitate the feeding-in of the wires 3 the face of the holder may be convex or shaped as a truncated cone, or pyramid, Fig. 7. The spring locking means may be dispensed with the valve being retained in the holder by the frictional grip between the central wire and the tube. Specification 641,799 is referred to.
