Abstract

638,470. Boxes. CHAPMAN, Ltd., H. W., BATTSON, H., RIGID CONTAINERS, Ltd., and BURDITT, H. April 15, 1948, Nos. 10507/48 and 1640/49. [Class 18] A box has end closing flaps which are folding into overlapping relation, pushed inwardly and released, whereupon they interlock. The flaps are folded inwardly in the order 5, 6, 7, 8 and pressure applied to the flap 8 to force all flaps inwardly until the tab 16 passes between the flaps 6, 7 and enters a slot 9 in the flap 5. Upon release of pressure, the edge 8a of the tab 16 is engaged beneath the flap 5 and its ends 14 engaged beneath the flaps 6, 7. Stepped portions 12 on the flaps 6, 7 interlock with recesses 15 in the flap 8. In an alternative form, the edge of the flap 5 is recessed to receive the tab 16 and has tongues 20 engaging in recesses 22 in the flap 8. A hinged lid may be provided.
