Abstract
637,620. Reinforced concrete piles. RICHES, V. C. D. March 3, 1948, No. 6625. [Class 68 (ii)] A pile comprises a precast concrete main pile A and a bottom unit C and may have one or more extension units B, the main pile having a reinforcing bar with a screwed end to which a washer D and sleeve E are attached, an extension unit B, or the bottom unit C, being screwed to the lower end of the sleeve E. In assembling the pile, the unit A is lowered and the rod B<SP>5</SP> guided into the bore B<SP>6</SP> of an extension unit B or of the bottom unit C, a gauged quantity of cement being poured into the conical recess B<SP>2</SP> or C<SP>2</SP>, the weight of the pile unit being sufficient to ensure tightness. Similarly, other extension units may be applied, and the bottom unit C, which may be of pointed form or comprise a steel shoe, is secured in position by a nut F. Alternatively, a steel tube closed by a detachable shoe may be driven into the ground, a small quantity of cement mortar poured in, and the pile inserted therein. A further quantity of cement is poured in to fill the 'spaces left around the pile when the tube is removed. Specification 521,682 is referred to.
