Abstract
796,789. Piles. SIME, DARBY & CO., Ltd. Aug. 7, 1956 [Aug. 9, 1955], No. 22938/55. Class 68(2) A tube, which is driven by means of a hammer, into the ground to form a bore in which is pile is cast or into which a pile is inserted, is provided with a reinforced concrete shoe which remains in the ground when the tube is withdrawn, the shoe having a pointed bottom 2 and a cylindrical upper part with spigot 4 to enter the tube 6 and a substantial shoulder 8 to engage the lower end of the tube 6 and having reinforcement in the form of a cage which follows the outline of the spigot, shoulder and bottom. The reinforcement may include four principal bars 10 lying in vertical planes at intervals of 45 degrees about the vertical axis of the shoe. Each bar 10 may extend across a diameter of the shoe just below shoulder 8 and across the pointed bottom to form a closed triangle. The principal bars are tied together by a spiral 14 and ring 15. Vertical bars 16 held by diametrical ties 18 reinforce the spigot 4. In a modification each of the principal bars runs from the spigot, under the shoulder. across the pointed bottom under the shoulder and back to the spigot.
