Abstract
597,303. Casting concrete poles &c. in situ. CLARK, P. F., and MORGAN, J. S. Aug. 13, 1945, No. 20782. [Classes 20(i) and 20(ii)] Columns, poles, pylons &c. of concrete or reinforced concrete are constructed and fixed in a single operation by erecting a vertical casing or shuttering for the column &c. in a foundation hole and injecting concrete &c. into the casing intermediate its ends and preferably near ground level so that the upper part of the casing is filled by the concrete &c. rising upwards therein after the base has been filled. The lower part of the casing may have perforations or slits and may be seated upon a plate anchored to a sealing collar surrounding the casing at the top of the foundation hole. The casing may consist of sections 1 vertically superposed and terminating in an end section 2 with widened header portion 3. Grout is injected through a tube 7 and inlet 5 by a pump 6. A float and needle indicator may be operated by the grout rising in the header portion. The casing, may be detachable or permanent and may be of cardboard &c. or asbestos cement. Alternatively the casing may consist of a tube of canvas which expands to circular form as constrained by a steel lattice casing when filled with grout and becomes integrated with the concrete pole.
