Class 68(ii) The making of piles by driving a tube a into the ground by ramming a plug b in the bottom of the tube, the plug engaging the inner wall of the tube frictionally, is characterized in that the (fresh and almost dry) concrete for forming the plug is contained in a deformable wrapper c (e.g. a paper bag). This has the advantage that the concrete can be introduced into the tube from the bottom instead of pouring it from the top. The bag may be held initially by straps or the like 4 secured to the tube; the straps may be fractured during the ramming so that the plug may spread somewhat outside the bottom of the tube. After sinking, the tube is filled with concrete, which may be reinforced, and the tube is left in the ground. The bottom of the tube may be thickened as shown at 1 in either Figure.
