Abstract

635,774. Electric resonators. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Feb. 27, 1947, No. 5727. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1946. [Class 40 (viii)] A hollow resonator 1 contains a tuning piston 5 and a coupling element 19 associated therewith so that adjustment of the piston varies both the resonant frequency of the resonator and the coupling coefficient of the element. In the arrangement of Fig. 1 the coupling probe carried by the piston moves into a recess 21 in the resonator wall and thus its effective length is varied. In alternative constructions one end of the element is secured to the resonator wall and the other end may slide telescopically in the piston or if it is sufficiently elastic the probe may be simply deformed by motion of the piston. In a further arrangement a coupling loop may be twisted by the rotation of a twisted element 37 passing through a driving slit in the piston. Finally, the coupling element may be a slit 41 connected to a waveguide 39, varying portions of the slit being covered by the piston. Specification 635,619 is referred to.
