Abstract
922,735. Impedance matching. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 16, 1959 [July 16, 1958], No. 22759/58. Class 40 (8). The tuning means of a resonant cavity is coupled to a variable reactance whereby the load on the cavity may be varied with the resonant frequency. As shown, the invention is applied to the reflex klystron described in Specification 895,112 in which axial movement of a tuning member 3 is produced by a cam 4 and micrometer screw 5. Cavity 1 is coupled through an iris 7 to an output waveguide 6 matched to the cavity by a conductive rod 8. The rod 8 is movable axially in one direction by a spring 9 and in the other by a lever 14 to which it is connected by a nylon cord 12. The lever is actuated by a projecting portion 18 of the tuning member 3. The mechanism may be designed to give constant output at all frequencies or maximum output at a given frequency.
