Abstract
635,622. Linear-dimension gauges. MAAG, M. April 8, 1947, No. 9312. Convention date, May 2, 1946. [Class 106 (ii)] A device for measuring an external dimension of a workpiece 10 comprises a needle 2 axially movable in a hollow shaft 1 and having wedge surfaces so as to displace at rightangles a feeler bolt 8, and a readily detachable workpiece-supporting frame 12 on the shaft. Inter-changeable frames of different sizes can thus be used to increase the range of measurement. As shown, the bolt 8 has inclined surfaces at its lower end so as to straddle two corresponding sloping surfaces at the front of the needle 2. The needle, connected to the feeler of a dial gauge 19, is urged forward by a spring 3 and may be moved back by a handle 16. The front part 33 of the shaft 1 is sealed so as to provide an air cushion, air being able to enter this part only in the extreme rear position of the needle. The frame 12 is secured in a slot 23 in a lug 22 on the shaft by an eccentric bolt 27 rotated by a lever 31. The gauge 19 has a spigot screwed into a sleeve 36, Fig. 6, freely rotatable in a sleeve 35 screwed into the shaft 1 so that the dial can be easily read with the device in any position. The dial of the gauge has adjustable tolerance marks on the main scale and an adjustable mark on an auxiliary scale which registers the number of turns of the main pointer.
