Abstract
630,849. Felt. BYWATER, Ltd., W., and LEATHER, C. I. May 24, 1945, No. 12964. [Class 42 (ii)] In a felt hardening machine having a fixed bottom plate and a verticallyadjustable top plate, the top plate carries a fixed stop at each corner, adapted to be engaged by an adjustable stop mounted on a fixed part of the machine, so that any required final or minimum distance between the plates can be set. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the top plate B carries a bracket C on which is mounted a cylindrical leg D sliding in the bore E of a cylindrical leg E<SP>1</SP>. The leg El is threaded externally and carries an internallythreaded nut or sleeve G provided with a locking-nut N. The leg E<SP>1</SP> and sleeve G may be provided with graduations L and M, and the upper surface H of the sleeve G forms an abutment for a fixed stop F secured to the leg D. Alternatively, as in.Fig. 2, a housing P may be secured to each corner of the machine, and contain wedge-members Q and R, having associated inclined surfaces S, the upper member Q being capable of vertical movement only, and the lower member R being movable laterally by rotating a threaded spindle V engaging a thread X therein, the amount of vertical movement thus imparted to the member Q being indicated by graduations Z. A saucer-shaped depression U in the upper surface of the member Q contains a ball T which in turn supports the topplate B.
