Abstract

629,964. Pressure-relieving devices for fluids ; valves. SPECIALTIES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. May 1, 1947, No. 11753. Convention date, May 7, 1946. [Class 135] A valve for high-pressure fluids has a separate seat in the form of an apertured disc 24 which fractures to allow the passage of fluid when a predetermined pressure occurs in the inlet. As shown, the disc is weakened by a groove 30. The disc may be of moulded plastic material or of copper, nickel or other suitable metal which hardens upon being worked. It is clamped between screw-threaded casing sections 20, 21. The section 20 has an outlet 17 and supports a lever 29 for actuating a spring-loaded valve member 25. The other section 21 is screwed into a container 10 and supports a syphon tube 16. The valve seat proper is formed by a ridge 32 surrounding the aperture 31. In a modification the groove 30 is dispensed with and the disc is formed of relatively thin sheet metal and has a strengthening flange round the seat aperture.
