Abstract
628,183. Heat-treating metal powders. WELLMAN CO., S. K. Oct. 18, 1946, No. 31039. Convention date, May 3. [Class 72] [Also in Group XIII] Metallic powder is dried and annealed after washing with dilute sulphuric acid to remove films of oxidation followed by water to remove the resulting acid solution, in a heat insulated autoclave 15. The air therein is exhausted through a pipe 23 and is replaced by superheated steam introduced through a pipe 21. The steam is forced downwardly through the powder which is supported on a filter cloth 16, and is discharged through a pipe 17. The steam drying and annealing treatment is 'followed by admitting through a pipe 22 a non-oxidizing gas to displace the superheated steam. The autoclave heat insulation 24 is then removed and water sprays cool the autoclave and its contents to room temperature.
