[Class 20(ii)] A pit-prop comprises a steel member b of tubular or other section, provided with an end fitting a in which an end piece c is welded &c. the end-piece having an oblique surface on which is seated the co-acting surface of an end cap e. The parts are retained in extended position by a locking bolt d passing through the end-piece c and engaging within a recess in the end cap, the locking bolt being under the control of a bell crank g which may be retained in operative position by a locking pin j or released and pulled by a chain &c. to withdraw the bolt and release the end cap which is coupled to the prop by a chain f.
