598,604. Locking rods. OLAER PATENT CO., and COMPAGNIE GENERALE POUR L'EQUIPEMENT AERONAUTIQUE. June 27, 1945, No. 16448. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1942. [Class 80(iii)] [Also in Groups XXIX and XXX] In a locking device for an hydraulic jack one end of a lever 5 pivoted at 7 to the cylinder of the jack about an axis perpendicular to the direction of sliding of the piston rod 2 has a locking surface adapted to co-operate with a shoulder of the piston rod for holding it in locking position in which the locking surface is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the piston rod, the circular arc described by the end of the lever during its locking and unlocking movement being tangential to the cylindrical surface of the piston rod. The lever is maintained in locking position in which the lever is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the piston rod by a toggle joint 4-6 interposed between the cylinder of the jack and the lever, and immobilised in, or slightly beyond, dead centre position by means of a spring 12. An hydraulically actuated piston 15 is provided for bringing the toggle joint beyond the position in which the lever is released.
