Abstract
739,674. Removing incrustations from metallurgical converters. PINTSCH BAMAG AKT.. GES. April 2, 1954, No.'9747/54. Class 72. [Also in Group XXIII] An apparatus for removing slag from metallurgical converters comprises a manuallycontrolled piston which strikes a tool-carrying rod, one end of which lies in the piston cylinder, in which in an initial stroke the piston pushes the tool into contact with the slag and further strokes act in a percussive manner against the rod. As shown, a piston 2 is driven in a cylinder 1 by compressed air, controlled by a manually-operated valve 6, against an anvil 3 having a rod 4 and a tool 5. The initial stroke is controlled to bring the tool against the slag at the required place and the piston is returned to its original position by admitting air to its front end through a pipe 8. The piston may thereafter be operated as a hammer piston by manual operation of the valve 6. The anvil may be retracted into the cylinder by admitting air to its front end through a pipe 7. The cylinder may be mounted in a universal joint 1a carried on a trolley 15 mounted on a vehicle 9. A pedal controlled spring-loaded brake 11 prevents unnecessary movement of the tool. The cylinder may be mounted on a frame and supported from a crane.
