[Also in Division F1] A pile driver or extractor is actuated by a reciprocating hydraulic, steam or air motor (see Division F1) acting through arms 44, Fig. 1, pivoted at 43 on the motor cylinder 10 and arms 46 pivoted at 45 on the end of the motor piston rod 12. Arms 44 and 46 are pivoted at 47 and are connected, respectively, to a rod 51 engageable with the end of a pile and carrying anvils 53 and 52, and to a collar 47a threaded on a sleeve 48a carrying hammers 49, 50 and weights 48b, sleeve 48a being slidable along rod 51. Sleeve 48a is adjustable axially of collar 47a to determine, during reciprocation of sleeve 48a relative to rod 51, whether hammer 50 strikes anvil 53 to drive the pile, or hammer 49 strikes anvil 52 to withdraw the pile. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the pile is engaged at a point along its length by a mandrel 56 slidable within sleeve 48a and carrying anvils 57, 58. The pile may be locked to either anvil 57 or 58 by means of wooden wedges.
