Abstract

579,294. Hydraulic machines. DOWTY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., DOWTY, G. H., and BASTOW, F. Feb. 25, 1944, No. 3564. [Class 69 (ii)] Locking means for one or both extremes of movement of a telescopic jack comprises spring tongues 10 carried by the cylinder arranged to spring outwardly to engage a locking member 12 on the plunger and to be secured in locking position by a sleeve 13. The sleeve is spring-loaded and its movement limited by stops 15, 16. As the piston approaches the end of its stroke, the spring tongues engage the member 12 and move radially outwardly to' contact and press backwardly the sleeve 13 until the tongues spring into the groove 16, the sleeve is then returned under spring pressure to the locking position. Unlocking is effected by the application of fluid pressure which moves the sleeve 13 axially, or by cable or other mechanical means. Specification 568,582 is referred to.
