Abstract

641,793. Locking telescopic members. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. Jan. 3, 1947, No. 255. [Class 80(iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] An inner tube 46, of a hydraulically operated telescopic strut, has an extension 47 which is provided with a groove 48 to engage the heads 49 of a circumferential series of individually pivoted pawls, movable in radial planes. When the tube 46 is forced to the right the extension 47 urges a spring-influenced sleeve, which surrounds the pawls and normally retains them in their inoperative position, to the right, until a plunger 55 is forced to the left by a spring 56 thus locking the pawls in the groove 48. Hydraulic pressure is admitted through an aperture 57 to the inner side of a piston 53 to withdraw the plunger 55 and allow the pawls 50 to move inwards.
