707,636. Pneumatic single-stroke apparatus. ELECTRO-HYDRAULICS, Ltd. July 7, 1950 [July 14, 1949], No. 18617/49. Class 8 (2). [ Also in Group XXIX] In an automatic locking device for telescopic jacks comprising a latch 7, a locking ring 12 forming an abutment through or over which the latch 7 is capable of sliding, and a spring- biased lock bolt 14 adapted to hold the latch 7 fixed and thus prevent it from sliding back through the ring 12, the latch 7 is formed of a plurality of rigid segments 25 which rock over a fulcrum e.g., a ring 9 with rounded edges without contacting the cylinder wall so as to engage the bolt 14, which latter is movable with respect to the latch 7. The bolt 14 and latch 7 are positively locked by co-operating tapers 27, 28 engagement of which is indicated by movement of a plunger 19 displaced by a bolt actuated cam 18. The latch 7 together with a similar latch 8, are secured to a rod 5 on each side of the jack piston 6 and engage one or other of locking rings 12, 13 and bolts 14, 15 at the ends of the cylinder 1.
