Abstract

663,330. Pistons. ERASMUS, B. J. Aug. 24, 1949, No. 22016/49. Class 122(i) In a brake piston and cylinder apparatus of the type fitted with a rolling ring, the top annular groove is recessed upwardly into the top flange in such a manner that the vertical line of the pressure exerted by said flange on the rolling ring towards the end of the downward stroke lies outwardly of a parallel vertical line passing through the centre of the ring. A piston 2 is fitted with a rolling ring 6 and has a flange 9 recessed at 4, the radius of the recess being less than the radius of the ring 6, the point of pressure of the flange 9 on the ring 6 at the end of the downward stroke being at point E. Typical dimension of the profile for a given ring are described.
