Class 122(i) A hydraulic cylinder and piston construction comprises a cylinder 11 and a piston 10 having a head contacting the cylinder bore and a reduced body 14, the head being recessed at 16 to receive a controlled rod 17. An expanding ring 18 is mounted on the body 14 against the head and has an annular recess 21 engaged by an annular rib 23, having a conical outer face, formed on a rigid sleeve 22 slidable. on the body 14. The opposite end of the sleeve is recessed to locate a compression spring 28 and bores 27 pass through the sleeve.
