Abstract

636,247. Pistons. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. and TREVASKIS, H. W. March 7, 1946, No 7124. [Class 122(i)] In a fluid-operated single acting jack the piston is formed on one face with an axial stem the end of which is seated at the bottom of an axial recess formed in a member secured to the piston rod, seating engagement being maintained by a compression spring acting between the end of the cylinder and the recessed member. As shown in Fig. 1, the piston 3 has a tapered axial stem 3a with a rounded end portion engaging in a tapered recess 5a in a member 5 attached to the piston rod 6 to permit rocking movement between the piston and piston rod. The spring 7 which forces the piston and member 5 into engagement is surrounded by a skirt 2a formed integral with the cylinder head. As shown in Fig. 2, the axial extension 10a and the recess member 11 are cylindrical, the end of the extension being rounded and enlarged to the diameter of the recess to permit rocking movement.
