Abstract
555,535. Pit-props. McGUIRE, T. April 21, 1942, No. 5333. [Class 20 (ii)] A pit-prop comprises two members, a, b, with corresponding inclined abutting faces a<SP>1</SP>, depending arms e with a lower cross bolt f pivoted to the upper member b and adapted to bear against a face of the end of the head portion, an angle shaped retaining member h, h<SP>1</SP> pivoted to the lower main member a adapted to engage the cross pin f of the depending arms, and a pivoted locking member i adapted to engage the lower end of the retaining member. An extension h<SP>2</SP> of the retaining member bears against one face of the web of the head portion and is provided with a projection h<SP>3</SP> to engage an aperture in the web of upper member b and a chain m is provided to prevent complete separation of the prop members. A cross bolt n may be used to lock the locking member i.
