Abstract
742,788. Pit-props. BACHMANN, G., BACHMANN, A., and CLAUS (nee BACHMANN), 1. June 11, 1952 [June 12, 1951; July 18, 1951], No. 14726/52. Class 20(2). A pit-prop comprises a hollow inner member 1 and frictional clamping wedges 8, 9, 10 which act on ribs R of the member 1 but not on the surfaces of the member 1 between the ribs. The members 9 are shown as drag wedges but members 8 and 10 may also be drag wedges. The movement of a wedge 9 is limited by a pin 16 and a wedge 17 is adapted to loosen the wedges. Movement of a wedge 9 may be prevented by a wedge 21 between brackets 22, 23 on the wedge and prop lock 6 respectively. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), wedge 21 may have oppositely inclined surfaces adapted to move either wedge 9 or 10. Wedges 10 are setting and drawing wedges. Wedges 9, 10 engage along an inclined plane 26, Fig. 6. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), there is one friction member between each two ribs and two adjacent friction members are engaged by a longitudinal wedge held in position by a horizontal wedge.
